Shelly Levy, M.Ed.
Shelly Levy is an Educational Specialist and ResearchILD Associate. She comes to ILD with over 25 years of experience in the field of Special Education. She has a M.Ed. from the David Yellin Teacher’s College, Rachel Shazar Special Education Institute in Jerusalem; and a M.S. in Management from Lesley University. Her career began as a reading and learning specialist working with students with language based learning challenges. Her expertise expanded to include students with attention issues, social-emotional, non-verbal learning, and executive function differences. As the former Director of Support Services for a private school, she was responsible for creating IEP’s and 504 Accommodation Plans, chairing parent team meetings, mentoring new and veteran teachers, providing staff training on learning differences and best practices, while continuing to provide direct strategy instruction to students. Shelly has training and experience with a variety of pedagogical methodologies including Orton Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, Wilson Just for Words, Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing, the EmPower Writing Program, SMARTS Executive Function Curriculum, and Mindfulness for Educators.
Shelly began at the Institutes of Learning and Development in 2017. As an Educational Specialist, she works with students of all ages who struggle with learning, attention, and executive function issues. She provides academic support in the areas of reading, writing, test preparation, and executive function – goal setting, planning and organizing, time management, and self-monitoring skills. She believes strongly that with the right approach, patience, and explicit instruction that every individual can succeed. In addition to establishing strong relationships, she promotes a growth mindset approach and teaches self-advocacy skills. As a ResearchILD Associate, Shelly is a member of the SMARTS Elementary Curriculum team, implements SMARTS lessons in public and private schools, and is the Coordinator of the SMARTS After the Bell program at the Joyce Middle School in Woburn.
